Our Story
Before creating Certificação Linux, my wife and I had already written the book Metodologia Científica: teoria e prática, which came with software for formatting undergraduate theses to ABNT standards.
One day, the publisher called and asked: "Don't you want to write a book in your field?" I thought of Linux right away.
I had already worked at an internet provider and at Lucent, and every day I saw people wasting hours on simple tasks because they didn't know text-processing tools, pipes, or Python automation.
Once, I had to import a customer database in CSV into a Linux system. Since nobody knew how to do the import, the team was going to register the customers one by one, manually. With a few commands in the terminal, I did the whole registration in seconds. That is what motivates me to teach: showing how knowing the tools can transform someone's work. — Prof. Uirá Ribeiro
But Linux was a vast universe. When I discovered the LPI, I found a scope that made sense to guide anyone who wanted to learn. In 2005, I published the book with a foreword by Jon "maddog" Hall, one of the great names in the global Linux community.
The book was a success, and readers started asking: "You teach so well, don't you have a course?" Certificação Linux was born from that demand.
