Red Hat Releases Full Version for Linux Platform
Red Hat has announced that Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8.2 (RHEL 8.2), the latest version of the world's largest enterprise Linux platform, is now available to the market. The announcement was made during the Red Hat Summit, the company's main annual event, held virtually between April 28 and 29.
With Linux continuing to grow as the backbone of corporate IT, lowering barriers for new and current users is an important focus for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8.2. "Today organizations need to do more with technologies that are already present in their software stacks; they need to achieve operational stability and keep services available, often with reduced or remotely working IT teams," says Stefanie Chiras, vice president and general manager of Red Hat Enterprise Linux at Red Hat.
Designed to meet the needs of the hybrid cloud era, RHEL 8.2 expands the platform's monitoring and performance capabilities. With new intelligent management and monitoring features, it offers a smoother experience for users and enhanced container tools. Red Hat Enterprise Linux has improved ability to optimize sensitive workloads through NUMA and sub-NUMA service policies and Performance Co-Pilot (PCP) 5.02, with new collection agents for Microsoft SQL Server 2019. Additionally, it can help detect, diagnose, and address potential issues intelligently, before they impact processes.
To further extend container workload security, Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8.2 also introduces Udica, a new tool to create custom SELinux security policies for containers in a more simplified way. When applied to a specific workload, Udica can reduce the risk of a process "escaping" from a container and causing problems in other containers or on the host itself.
